"This is exactly the kind of detail I needed! Getting the right landing port in Crete is always tricky, and your breakdown of the different routes from Athens really helps clarify the logistics. I'm trying to finalize my itinerary for a rental car, so knowing the specific booking tips for vehicles is incredibly helpful. I've always wanted to explore Chania and Rethymno!"

"This sounds absolutely perfect for a coastal trip! I’ve been wanting to explore the Drapano sea caves by boat—it sounds much more dramatic than just swimming on the main beaches. I’m planning a trip for the late summer and hope to follow this route to hit both Souda Bay and some of the coves. Thanks so much for putting this together!"

"This guide is incredibly helpful, especially the breakdown of whether a self-drive or licensed boat makes more sense depending on the destination. As I plan a trip for my family next year, I was really confused about the different types of licenses, so having a clear comparison like this is a lifesaver before we head out to the Gulf of Mirabello. Thanks for taking the time to organize all these rules!"

"This is such a helpful and detailed guide! I've always been fascinated by the idea of exploring the twin coves and Seitan Limania by boat. I'm planning to visit early next year and these specific suggestions give me the perfect blueprint for a relaxing itinerary."

"This was exactly the guide I needed! I've always been hesitant about booking a boat trip because of the unpredictable wind patterns, but your breakdown of the sea conditions by month is so helpful. I'm hoping to visit in late May, and knowing what to expect regarding the Calama Peninsula crossing makes me feel much more confident planning my itinerary. Thank you for all the detailed advice!"

"This was such a helpful guide—I was completely torn about whether to base myself on the north or the south, and reading about the difference in atmosphere really helped settle my mind! Since I'm planning for 2026, I'm leaning toward the wilder southern route, maybe starting near Balos and working my way down towards Gavdos. Thanks for making the charter options so clear; I think a bareboat charter might be just right for us."

"These sound like the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure! I've heard amazing things about the Drapano sea caves, and pictures of the sheltered coves really sold me on a boat trip. I'm planning to visit in late spring, so this guide is timing perfectly for my trip to the Apokoronas coast."
Amsterdam, Netherlands
"This sounds like the perfect trip! I've always been drawn to the idea of a coastal walk combined with snorkeling, so I'm particularly excited to see that mentioned. It sounds like the perfect way to experience the Apokoronas coast without needing to plan too much. I plan on visiting in early autumn, and this gives me such a great starting point for planning!"

"This list is incredibly helpful—I've been researching ways to see the lesser-known spots, and I'm particularly intrigued by the suggestions for sea caves near the southern coast. My partner and I are planning a trip next year, and we were hoping to take a boat tour that explores some of those more secluded spots, not just the major lagoons. Thanks for giving us some great ideas to plan our perfect itinerary!"

Quick answers for this category, from booking details to what to expect before you board.
During the peak season (June to September), booking several weeks in advance is highly recommended, especially for private charters and luxury yachts. Popular boats and destinations such as Balos Lagoon and Gramvousa often sell out well before the travel date.
Guest safety is always the top priority. If weather conditions are unsuitable for the planned trip, the operator may offer an alternative route, reschedule the excursion, or provide a refund according to the cancellation policy of the specific boat trip.
Crete offers access to some of the island's most spectacular coastal destinations, including Balos Lagoon, Gramvousa Island, Menies Beach, Thodorou Island, Seitan Limania, Elafonissi, Loutro, Marmara Beach, Agia Roumeli, and many secluded bays that are only accessible by sea.
All boat trips include a professional skipper, fuel for the planned itinerary, safety equipment, and insurance. Most cruises also include meals, drinks, snorkeling equipment, and SUP boards, allowing you to enjoy a comfortable and relaxing day at sea. Specific inclusions are listed on each boat trip page.
For the most enjoyable experience, we recommend bringing swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and a light jacket for the return journey. Don't forget your camera to capture Crete's stunning coastline, crystal-clear waters, and hidden beaches. If meals and drinks are not included in your trip, you may also wish to bring snacks and water.
