Kalogeros
A private Cretan estate set above the southern sea, where ancient traditions of beekeeping, goat farming, fire cooking, olive oil pressing, and sea salt harvesting are still practiced daily.
Kalogeros — A Living Cretan Estate Where Tradition Meets the Sea
Kalogeros is not a beach — it is a working Cretan estate, a place where the rhythms of traditional island life play out as they have for generations. Set above the southern coast, the estate produces its own honey, olive oil, and sea salt, keeps goats and bees, and serves food cooked over open fire. Visiting is an immersion in a Crete that is becoming increasingly rare to encounter.
What you'll find?
Beekeeping & Honey
The estate maintains traditional beehives among the wild herbs and flowers of the southern hillside, producing exceptional honey with a distinctive Cretan flavour — intense, aromatic, and deeply rooted in the landscape. Visitors can learn about the beekeeping process and taste honey straight from the source.
Goats & Dairy
A small herd of Cretan goats roams the land, providing milk for fresh cheeses and dairy products made on-site. The animals are part of the living fabric of the estate, and their presence adds to the authentic, pastoral feel of the place.
Fire Cooking, Olive Oil & Sea Salt
Food at Kalogeros is cooked over an open fire using produce from the land and sea — estate olive oil, handmade bread, goat cheese, honey, and vegetables. The sea salt is harvested by hand from coastal rock pools, and the olive oil is pressed on-site. Everything you eat here has a provenance and a story.
Kalogeros is best visited as part of a boat excursion along the southern coast — a meal here, with the sea below and the hills above, is one of the most memorable experiences Crete has to offer.
