Falasarna Harbor
Falasarna Harbor is a small fishing and pleasure harbour on the far west coast of the Chania region, beside one of Crete's most celebrated sandy beaches. It lies about 16 kilometres west of Kissamos, below the ruins of ancient Falasarna, and serves the surrounding farming and beach area with local boats and a sheltered mooring.
A Small Harbour on Crete's Western Edge
Falasarna sits at the western end of Crete, where the Gramvousa peninsula meets the open Mediterranean. The modern harbour is a modest shelter for fishing and small pleasure boats, serving the scattered settlement and its farms rather than large ferries. It is best known as the gateway to Falasarna's long sandy beach and to the archaeological site of the ancient city just to the north.

The ruins of ancient Falasarna, a Hellenistic city-state, lie just north of the modern harbour. Tectonic uplift around the fourth century AD raised its stone harbour well above today's sea level, and visitors can still see the rock-cut basins, defensive towers, and a carved stone throne.
Local Boats and Calm Moorings
The harbour offers a sheltered mooring on an otherwise exposed coast. Small fishing boats work from here, and it provides a calm base for swimming and coastal outings away from the busier resorts.

The turquoise lagoon of Balos and the islet of Gramvousa lie on the peninsula to the north; most visitors reach them by boat from Kissamos, about 40 minutes' drive away, or by foot and rough 4x4 tracks.
Kissamos
The town and port of Kissamos is about 16 kilometres east, roughly a 25-minute drive, and is the main departure point for Balos and Gramvousa cruises as well as the area's main service centre.
Sfinari and the West Coast
South of Falasarna, a quiet coastal road leads to the pebble coves of Sfinari and the remote southwest, a scenic drive for travellers seeking unspoilt beaches.
